Studies on the macro algal diversity in ecosystem functioning is becoming increasingly recognized and these large group of organisms are extremely diverse and heterogeneous from evolutionary and ecological viewpoint. The aim of writing this book to meet the requirement of students and research scholar in phycology for helping in the identification of seaweeds of Rameswaram. An attempt has been made to present the seaweeds of Rameswaram coast in a nutshell of this kind in which seaweed found in Rameswaram are taken into account for avoiding unnecessary problem in the identification. Algal families and genera are arranged according to the standard monographs. The bibliographies at the end of this book are to be looked upon as indicating the source where the students may find additional information about seaweeds. Photographs are available in this book for easy identification of common seaweed in Rameswaram. The authors’ hopes that the book in its present form will serve the students and researchers interest effectively.
